Editor's review
This software is a combined tool for organizing, editing, sharing and presenting digital photos. It’ll help you manage audio and video files as well.
Ashampoo Photo Commander is a combined tool for organizing, sharing, in general managing multimedia files that contain images, audio and video. It also has appropriate players for playing these files types. Photo editing functions include automatic enhancements, red eye removal and crop, resize, rotate functions. Color, hue, contrast and other parameters could be enhanced with the photo editor. Presentation and sharing functionalities include creating slide shows with music, web albums, photo collages, calendars and so on. Disc burning features help creating CD/DVD or even Blu-ray DVD for sharing with others and creating PDF documents for sharing by mail. Photos can be directly imported from cameras and scanners. Organizing features include the ability to view files by time and date, view contents of multiple folders simultaneously, ability to add descriptions to the photos, viewing the content as film strip along with thumbnails etc. In the multiple folders view contents of all selected folders in a single window, including sub-folders is available.
One of the biggest headaches in organizing photo and other media files are the duplicates hiding in different folders and sub-folders. These have tendency to grow over time. You can now sort photo files by the date they were taken on as well as by their file date. An updated Batch Rename tool enables you to change the names of multiple files with new options like lower case, upper case, remove part of the name, remove extension etc. The interface is organized with a set of tabs that group the related functions. The preview window not only shows the photo but displays information about the photo in detail. Though well organized, there are so much detail in the interface that it could be intimidating for beginners. The package works well overall.
